Stand for Gallimard

What is the stand for ?

This stand was Designed to present two of Gallimard's book series: La Serie Noir and La Litterature Classique

Why this Design ?

The Structure is a reference to the pages of an open book . It is placed open towards the entrance of the stand so that the converging lines invite the visitor to enter.

The stand has been designed so that there are two distinct sides that represent the two series :

The serie noir (on the right) has high book shelves, that are all different lengths. This means that from the entrance of the stand it is not possible to see the people in between the bookcases or the seated reading area.

The literature classique (on the left) has shoulder height shelves that are all the same length. This means that from the entrance of the stand there is a direct view straght to the seated reading area and all the people in between the book cases .

The colours  play a very important part in the distinction of the two areas :

The floor fades from black to white from the one side to the other , this means that even though there are two parts to the stand it makes a link between the two .

The shelves are also in two different colours : the dark grey underlines the ''noir '' series and makes it feel more closed as opposed to the white which keeps the ''litterature classique" area light and airy.
