Introduction

Hello!

We are first year students of Design and Architecture in LISAA Rennes  and this is our blog about our architectural projects as well as our cultural references.

We chose to make a blog about these particular artists because their work has been a great influence to us .Their contemparary architectural principales have meant that we have found ourselves reusing many of their ideas in our projects. Both of these artist's projects are monumental but they have also worked on smaller projects for personal use.

For the making of this blog we both chose an artist that we felt we would like to share with you .After a lot of research we chose a few of their projects that we felt were the most important and that descibed their work in the best way.
Following this we each chose one of our personal projects from our first year at LISAA that  we have explained using photos of the prototypes.
Finaly we swapped over our work so that each other could read through and say if there was any problems with the general comprehention.

We hope you enjoy your visit!

Architect reference: Frank Gehry

Frank Gehry  is a Canadian-American Pritzker Prize-winning architect based in Los AngelesGehrys' career has spanned four decades and produced public and private buildings in America, Europe and Asia.
At the end of the twentieth century, Gehry has become one of the most recognized and talked about architect in the world. He is among a few widely known architects whose projects bring architecture into the conversations of ordinary people. The century ended with the selection of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (Spain), designed by Gehry as  the "Building of the Century".

F. Gehry designed and directed all his projects himself whilst being undertaken by Gehry Partners which was founded in 1962 in Los Angeles.
Much of Gehry's work falls within the style of Deconstructivism for his ability to go beyond current modalities of structural definition by using common materials such as chain link fencing or corrugated metal siding as architectural elements.
Gehry's own Santa Monica residence is a commonly cited example of deconstructivist architecture, as it was so drastically divorced from its original context, by relocating many of the wall and by adding new ones in such a manner as to subvert its original spatial intention.
In 1989 Gehry's firm was responsible for the innovation in architectural software.
His company spun off another company called Gehry Technologies which developed digital

projects and gave him  the freedom the create even more inovating spaces .

For him you have to see everything with new eyes to discover what is usual and how you can make it become extraordinary.
Gehry's style at times seems unfinished or even crude ,it combines his intrest in materiality and expressive forms. His buildings are usually composed of discrete volumes, shaped by curved roofs . Often in metal panels, stainless steel or titanium, as plating. The result is a collection of buildings that no longer resemble the historic architectural design. Some structures appear to defy the laws of gravity and question the human ability to form structures.

here are some of his characteristique projects :
Dancing House in Prague and Vitra Design Museum in Germany
Walt Disney Concert Central and The Gehry Tower in Hannover

The hotel room

What is it?
The hotel is a place of passage, it is a space in which we only stay a short time, about one to five nights.

What  we do?
You can  rest , sleep ,wash and maybe work.

My Space
To create a hotel room that can cater for people with disabilities. I have chosen to leave the bed as a central element of the room .Around which i have left the minimum space required for a wheelchair giving a rel sens of movement and space. For artificial light I have chosen to integrate the panels OLEDs, a new surface light source.

Stand for Gallimard

What is the stand for ?

This stand was Designed to present two of Gallimard's book series: La Serie Noir and La Litterature Classique

Why this Design ?

The Structure is a reference to the pages of an open book . It is placed open towards the entrance of the stand so that the converging lines invite the visitor to enter.

The stand has been designed so that there are two distinct sides that represent the two series :

The serie noir (on the right) has high book shelves, that are all different lengths. This means that from the entrance of the stand it is not possible to see the people in between the bookcases or the seated reading area.

The literature classique (on the left) has shoulder height shelves that are all the same length. This means that from the entrance of the stand there is a direct view straght to the seated reading area and all the people in between the book cases .

The colours  play a very important part in the distinction of the two areas :

The floor fades from black to white from the one side to the other , this means that even though there are two parts to the stand it makes a link between the two .

The shelves are also in two different colours : the dark grey underlines the ''noir '' series and makes it feel more closed as opposed to the white which keeps the ''litterature classique" area light and airy.
